Michael Vick won't serve a day in jail

Now that Michael Vick has plead guilty and found Jesus, it's important to note that he won't be sentenced until December. It seems odd that someone would plead guilty, but then wait four months to be sentenced.

Why is there a delay in sentencing Michael Vick?

I asked the question on a sports forum I post on, and a couple of lawyers replied. They said that there is a pre-sentencing phase where members of the Justice department create reports on Michael Vick. Personality, money, behavior, etc. are all taken into account and then a report is created for the judge. The judge then decides on the penalty.

The key question became, "What is Michael Vick does good things between now and then? Will that lessen the penalty?"

The answer is yes. If Michael Vick is a saint between now and then it will be taken into consideration. Interesting.

There are already stories about Michael Vick not serving time, but I don't think the President will enter the fray.

Things need to align for Michael Vick so he can avoid jail time. If you look, you'll see they are starting to come together:

The Dogs: What about the dogs? Remember last week it sounded like they would be killed? Not now. The Federal Government has stepped in, so you can be assured they will be safe.

Money: The Atlanta Falcons want 20 million or so back, but Vick is worth twice as much. Even if he returns the money to the Falcons, they aren't going to cut him. Vick can take that money and fund dog rescues, etc. to further enhance his name.

Jesus: This is the one that is most delicate, but if Vick can integrate himself into a church, attend reguarly, donate some money and do some good works he can further the cause.

Larry Craig: Michael Vick needs to send a personal thank you note and a nice gift to Senator Craig. No sooner than people began really digging into Vick's apology, Senator Craig breaks into the news cycle. Michael who? With the spotlight off of him Vick can begin laying the ground work to avoid jail.

Michael Vick won't spend a day in jail. He has a smart, competent legal team and they will work to rehabilitate Michael's image between now and then. All he has to do is take some public, charitable steps and he's playing for the Falcons again next season.
