Winning the US Open Tennis Tournament can be very lucrative in cash. The prize money is the same regardless of gender.

Here is what the winners are participants won in 2007:

Singles Winner $1,400,000
Singles Runners-Up $700,000
Singles Semifinalists $300,000
Singles Quarterfinalists $150,000
Singles Round of 16 $75,000
Singles Third Round $43,000
Singles Second Round $27,500
Singles First Round $17,500

Even if you get bounced at in the first round you make close to 20 grand. Not bad.

Doubles doesn't get as much love, but there is still money to be made. I would assume the teams split this money:

Doubles Winners $400,000
Doubles Runners-Up $200,000
Doubles Semifinalists $100,000
Doubles Quarterfinalists $50,000
Doubles Round of 16 $25,000
Doubles Second Round $15,000
Doubles First Round $10,000

If you're bounced out in the first round you're looking at $5000. Not chump change, but not a ton.

Mixed doubles is where you get screwed. I like playing mixed doubles, which I think is tougher than normal doubles.
Mixed doubles Winners $150,000
Mixed doubles Runners-Up $70,000
Mixed doubles Semifinalists $30,000
Mixed doubles Quarterfinalists $15,000
Mixed doubles Second Round $10,000
Mixed doubles First Round $5,000

There is more money to be made than the prize money. Players also receive $1,022 as a per diem.
