How much did the Padres pay for Mark PriorSubmitted by fortheinfo on Thu, 12/27/2007 - 6:44pm.
Mark Prior is a 27 year old right handed pitcher coming off a season where he didn't pitch in any regular season game. He's coming from the Cubs who basically gave up on him. And yes, I think the Padres got the hometown discount. Still, one million dollars in today's baseball world isn't much to give up for taking a shot at a former ace. If you want to break down how much they paid for his career, let's look at his statistics: WINS: He won 42 games. This is $23,809 per game pitched. STRIKEOUTS: He has 757 strikeouts. $1,321 per strikeout is a bargain, especially if it's in the playoffs. INNINGS: He's pitched in 657 innings. At $1,522 per inning you're getting a fire sale type price. HITS: He's had 41 hits. Oh, don't think Prior doesn't have wood. At a $24,390 per hit you probably should make them count. In all seriousness the signing of Prior allows the Padres to have a small chance at a very good pitcher. Is Prior damaged goods? We'll see. Bookmark/Search this post with: |
