2006 NHL Draft by height and weightSubmitted by fortheinfo on Wed, 06/28/2006 - 9:27pm.
Now we're starting to get into the meat of the numbers: height and weight. Yes, there is an NHL Draft pun in there. We're going to start off with the average height of the drafted players. I broke it into inches and the grouped them together. Notice the standard bell curve for the height:
The next graph shows the player's height by the position they were listed in for the 2006 NHL draft:
Who was the shortest player drafted in the 2006 NHL draft? Center Mathieu Perreault selected 177th by the Washington Capitals was shortest at 5 foot 8 inches. Who was the tallest player drafted in the 2006 NHL draft? Goalie Niko Hovinen selected 132nd by the Minnesota Wild was the tallest at 6 foot 7 inches. The average height of the players taken was 6 foot 1 inch. The next set of graphs look at the weight of the players selected in the 2006 NHL Draft. I didn't use weights to the pound, but to the ten of pounds:
Notice the standard bell curve again in the weight. Now we're going to look at the weight per position:
The defensivemen are the big boys of this group.  Who was the lightest player drafted in the 2006 NHL Draft? Goalie Jeff Zatkoff was selected 74th by the Los Angeles Kings and he weighs 150 pounds. Who was the heaviest player drafted in the 2006 NHL Draft? Right Winger Chris Stewart was selected 18th by the Colorado Avalanche and he weighs 228 pounds. Tomorrow we conclude our graphs of the NHL draft with a couple of wacky ones.
