With the recent news that Travis Johnson was fined for a late hit, I got to thinking:

Where does all the money the NFL collects in fines go?

The NFL site was no help at all. I then turned to my friend Google and found a few things:

No one knows how much they collect each year: You have to add up the numbers manually. Even when you do that there is no official number published concerning how much they collect in total:

The San Diego Padres signed broken down pitcher Mark Prior to a one year, one million dollar contract.

Mark Prior is a 27 year old right handed pitcher coming off a season where he didn't pitch in any regular season game. He's coming from the Cubs who basically gave up on him. And yes, I think the Padres got the hometown discount.

Still, one million dollars in today's baseball world isn't much to give up for taking a shot at a former ace.

The New England Patriots are on the brink of going undefeated in the regular season. No other NFL team, except the 1972 Dolphins, have done this. This is creating a huge demand on tickets to the final game of the year.

If you look on Stubhub you'll see some wild prices for tickets. Check out the following screenshot:

The Patriots travel to New Jersey to play the New York Giants. The Giants have made the playoffs, so no one knows how hard they will play or what starters will play a considerable amount of time.

The three formerly accused Duke lacrosse players, Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and Dave Evans, have brought a federal lawsuit against the city of Durham. They alledge a multitude of items and they are seeking punitive and compensatory damages.

How much will they get if they win? Unsure, but based on reports prior to the lawsuit being filed, the group was looking for $30 million dollars and changes in police procedures:

It didn't take a genius to predict it, but I've railed against her for so long I feel vindicated. Our long, national nightmare is over. Marion Jones is going to plead to using steroids.

FINALLY

I wrote two articles concerning this in the past. In the first article I discussed how Marion Jones quacked like a duck. In the second article I discussed her testing positive for drugs. Remember, in that article there was a blanket denial from her concerning usage
